Our team has already successfully been taking advantage of industry standard automation tooling to ensure quality, simplify processes, and introduce other opportunities to improve our z/OS product releases process. We need a DevOps engineer to augment our squad through this time of growth and to accelerate this modernization work.

Job Duties:

Directly serving IBM’s internal z/OS product development and test groups – hundreds of engineers across IBM z/OS operating system and middleware software engineers.

Learn to enhance, maintain, and support our current DevOps catalog – mainly consisting of code to leverage industry standard DevOps tools on the IBM Z platform.

Develop, test, and deploy tools and services to assist the z/OS products during their lifecycle of development and test activities – development ‘nightly’ builds and final product release for external customers.

Preparing, running, monitoring, and resolving the results of modern Jenkins pipelines.

Collaborate with z/OS Build team and DevOps technical leaders.

Ongoing modernization efforts – work with your squad and sponsored users to design and deliver improvements to existing processes and create novel additions.

Provide technical leadership for the release engineering and operations squads.

Showcase project results frequently to both users and management.

As a member of the z/OS DevOps squad, you will be expected to take ownership over on-platform DevOps development and operations for the elements that make up z/OS and other related products. Key qualities of this role would be:

The team has regular release cycle deliverables and works together to get the work done right and on-time. We are building the team with new skills and need to take our deep operational expertise and translate that into new automation pipelines for use by the development and test squads which we serve.

About the Team

The z/OS DevOps Engineering squad designs, develops, and supports DevOps tools for z/OS development and test services squads within IBM.


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

A minimum of 5 years of experience in writing microservices or automating operations using jobs and scripts – can be a mix of back-end and DevOps background jobs and scripts – can be a mix of back-end and DevOps background

A minimum of 1 years of experience in leading an Agile team

Demonstrated experience in leading through transformation and working with sponsored users

Expert knowledge of industry standard technologies including Jenkins Pipelines, Git and an automated build tool such as maven

Additional communication skills including presenting showcases, face-to-face training and education, ability to take requirements and feedback


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

Experience in z/OS development and operations environments – TSO/E, ISPF, USS, SDSF, z/OSMF

Experience in scripting languages – Bash shell, Python, and Groovy/Java

Experience with Agile patterns
