Job Description

The Senior Controls Lead is a critical leadership role in the regional 1LoD Regional Risk team. This role is responsible for developing and overseeing the 1LoD implementation and monitoring of controls which are implemented at a regional and market-level. The role will act as a key stakeholder for the 2LoD Group Risk organisation, specifically the Controls group who are rolling-out a suite of critical control objectives into the region.

The role will develop a framework/process for 1LoD monitoring of controls either within the team or partnering with market-based 1LoD Risk Managers to ensure this happens locally. This will include working with control owners to ensure they are fulfilling their obligations as well as working with stakeholders to document controls as and when required either regionally or in a particular market. The role will also play a key part in helping markets/functions prepare appropriately for Internal Audits and other oversight/testing activities.

In this role you will be expected to:

· Develop and propose operational risk and controls improvement plans for given areas of responsibility.
· Where gaps against controls are identified, work at pace to resolve, managing via Archer where appropriate
· Work with 2LoD Regional Risk to analyse top risks and risk controls for completeness and quality, working with markets and functions to undertake risk and controls gap analysis
· Work with Group Risk to understand roadmap of new Policies/Policy revisions which will apply to the region and perform gap analysis with 1LoD from the markets to prepare for implementation
· Where appropriate, lead development of critical controls in markets, developing business implementation plans and supporting documentation to enable effective control operation.
· Clearly understand specific regulatory-related controls which must be implemented and ensure appropriate monitoring is taking place
· Attend applicable risk forums to ensure effective discussions are taking place related to controls/control design


What we expect you to bring:

· Experience in transformation, risk and controls management, risk control design and implementation, controls testing methodologies and implementation.
· Continuous improvement, programme execution and change management
· Good understanding of best practice risk and control frameworks. Previous risk and control review/audit & improvement project. Experience of RSA ARCHER beneficial but not essential.
· Self-motivated team player with an entrepreneurial yet pragmatic mindset and get-things-done mentality
· Inspiring people leader who can effectively manage a team remotely
· Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to formulate insights around complex business problems with senior audiences
· Strong personal initiative and good judgment; desire to succeed in a demanding, innovative, and entrepreneurial environment
· Ability to adapt quickly and work independently
· Desire to continuously learn and develop skills
· Ability to assimilate information and synthesise a way forward quickly; takes an evidence-based approach
· Gravitas, comfortable expressing views in front of senior executives

· Excellent communicator, experienced in managing own performance and contributing to team spirit
